How to use a Video Promo
A Video Promo displays a video with a description and an optional link.
- Use on a Landing Page or on a Basic Page.
- Use to showcase a standalone video that does not need multiple paragraphs of introductory text. The Video Promo is intended to stand on its own.
- Videos must be hosted on YouTube or Vimeo.
Example: Video Promo
Our state parks serve as the crown jewels of the Maryland wilderness, preserving over 100,000 acres of natural beauty and historic landmarks.

1. Title – 75 characters max
The Title is a heading that introduces the video. This can optionally be hidden on-screen.
2. Video
Videos must be posted on YouTube or Vimeo. Provide the full URL for the video, beginning with https://www.youtube or https://www.vimeo.
3. Video Promo Style
Select one of three Video Promo Styles: full width video, video before text, and video after text.
Optional fields
1. Description – 250 characters max
The Video Description is optional. It provides additional context for the video.
2. Link – 50 characters max
Include a Link when you’d like to direct visitors to a page with information related to the video. Some examples:
- To a page with a detailed explanation of the video
- To a page with multiple videos, for example, when a Video Promo highlights a constituent success story and the link takes visitors to a page with additional constituent stories
When to consider something else
Use the Text Editor to insert a video into the body text if the video needs to feel like a part of a larger text section.
If your video is longer than 15 minutes, don’t use a Video Promo. Instead, link directly to YouTube or Vimeo where the video is hosted.
