How to use a Highlight
A Highlight showcases content in two or three columns. Use a Highlight to show a compact group of related links. Or use it to show selling points, features of a program, or key aspects of your organization.
Tip: The Highlight’s columned format is a great way to draw attention to the resources your agency offers.
- Use the Highlight on a Landing Page or on a Basic Page.
- Optionally feature between one and five links in each column.
Example: Highlight
Welcome to the Old Line State, a destination where the "America in Miniature" spirit thrives from the rolling Appalachian foothills to the sun-drenched Atlantic coastline.
Maryland Food and Drink
Our diverse culinary landscape invites you to explore artisan creameries in Frederick County and legendary bakeries on the shores of Smith Island.
Maryland Recreation
Maryland’s food festivals serve as the primary engine for our seasonal tourism economy, drawing thousands to celebrate everything from peaches to oysters.
Required fields
1. Highlight Group Title – 75 characters max
The Highlight Group Title introduces the Highlight as a whole and provides context for how the columns are related to one another. The Highlight Group Title can optionally be hidden on screen.
2. Highlight Column Title – 50 characters max
Each column has a Highlight Column Title.
Optional fields
1. Highlight Group Description – 250 characters max
The Highlight Group Description is optional. It provides additional context for the Highlight as a whole.
2. Highlight Column Description – 160 characters max
Each column can have an optional Highlight Column Description.
Use it to provide an introduction to each column. Use the Highlight Column Description consistently – use it for every column, or none of them.
3. Link – 50 characters max
Each Link has a label and a destination URL.
- Write a descriptive Link label so visitors know what to expect when they click on the Link.
- The Link can go to a page on your website, or to an external website. If the Link goes to an external website, it will include an icon indicating that it goes to an external website.
4. More Link – 50 characters max
When using the Highlight to feature items from a larger list, you may include a More Link to direct users to another page on the site.
- For example, a Highlight could highlight the most popular services and the More Link could direct visitors to view all services.
- Use the More Link consistently – use it for every column, or none of them.
When to consider something else
Use a Link Collection or Visual Link Collection when content can’t be grouped into two or three columns.
Use the Text Editor when a description requires more than 160 characters.
